Lost for nearly 30 years, Salvation Machine captures DMV-area band Tribal Voice at the height of its early-'90s East Coast touring years.

About the Album

Tribal Voice was a DMV-area alternative rock band with roots in Annapolis, Bowie, Washington, DC and Baltimore. The band existed in several incarnations before settling into the lineup heard on Salvation Machine, featuring Eric Brown, Robert Wilson, Trampas Ferree and Jeff Bradford.

One of the band's most distinctive features was its unusual two-bass lineup, with Eric Brown handling vocals and bass alongside Trampas Ferree on bass, joined by Robert Wilson on guitars and vocals and Jeff Bradford on drums.

Recorded by Don Zientara at the legendary Inner Ear Studios in Arlington, Virginia, Salvation Machine was originally released on CD and cassette on September 30, 1992. During this period, Tribal Voice toured extensively up and down the East Coast, selling the album primarily at shows. Baltimore's Merkin Records was associated with distribution of the original release.

Tribal Voice continued performing into 1993, including a live session at WFMU, before officially disbanding later that year. The album subsequently became difficult to find and remained unavailable to a wider audience for decades.

After recordings were recovered nearly 30 years later, Big Curve Music brought Salvation Machine to worldwide digital distribution for the first time on March 15, 2022, preserving a piece of early-'90s DMV music history that had largely disappeared with the band.
